The Monterey area, including the city of Monterey, the wharf, and Carmel are great places to shop, and dine. This area is about 40 miles south of Santa Cruz. There are many things to see, including the 17 mile drive in Carmel, and whale watching tours from the Monterey wharf. For more information see:

Monterey Bay Aquarium
is considered one of the best aquariums in the United States, and is 40 miles south of Santa Cruz. There is more than enough things to see to keep people off all ages enthralled for hours. For anyone who has not been there before it is a must see. For more information see:

Point Lobos is another state park, and is about 45 miles south of Santa Cruz. Point lobos has picnic areas, walking trails, and tide pools. The park is a great place to see Monterey Bay's wild life, including sea lions, and otters. For more information see:

Big Basin
is a state park full of beautiful redwood trees, and is about 25 miles north of Santa Cruz. Big Basin has picnic areas, and hiking trails that go as far as 16 miles into the redwoods. For more information see:
